Student Assignment: Copy Copy

Copywriting is fun. As an assignment in my typography class, we got an interesting brief for an imaginary art exhibition. The theme of which would be the topic of what the significance of copies are. This has later had a profound impact on me and my later studies in practical philosophy and history of art as I was invited to ponder the question; what is the value of authenticity, and what even is the power and value of an original work of art?

Regardless, this assignment was a joy to work with. We were tasked with designing posters, exhibition signs, Instagram ads and the copywriting itself. I designed the logo and formed a graphic profile, complete with fonts and templates for how the signs were to look.

The logo of the museum was already given to us to incorporate into the designs. When I found the art by “Cool Vector” I got inspired. The art resembles paint but is done entirely digitally, which plays directly into the themes explored by the project. Next, I needed to integrate the modern art and aspects of contemporary artists.

My fonts would reflect modern designs and feel inclusive to the observer. The design I settled on needs to stand out, even at night on a busy street. With clear oranges and cool whites, I wanted to draw the eye to the billboard. The logo stands out and cooperates with the logo of the museum to convey what it is. It is risky not to make the tiny text more legible, but I think the people that would be interested would take the time to look at it at a closer range.
